I had a wonderful time participating in the symposium last weekend. I thought that the comments from both Prof. Ko and Prof. Reicks were extremely helpful and I hope that they have helped the Ochanomizu students in deciding how to conduct their research. I also hope my presence was helpful to the other students! It was very impressive to me that all students were able to participate in the Symposium using only English. I know how intimidating it is to speak in a second language and they should all be proud of themselves!

In GREAT-Ocha symposium, the session for my presentation was really a good chance to get to know myself and my own research. I knew giving a presentation on a certain topic in front of other people would be a very good experience for me. Mostly, I felt I had to check myself based on this experience. I was happy to meet Japanese student like Yumi, Akane, Chiaki, Rio, Kanako, Saori, Rika and Alaine. Thank you for all the help.

私は留学経験がなく、海外の方と話すことを滅多にしないような環境で過ごしてきたため、今回のGREAT-Ochaは応募や発表準備の段階から多くの困難がありました。初めは英語でわかりやすく伝えることがとても大変であると感じていましたが、その内容が専門性をもつことや、科学的な知見をもとにプレゼンテーションをしなければならず、相当な時間をかけて準備する必要がありました。そのため、ある程度内容も英語も磨いた状態で当日を迎えましたが、当日はそれまでとは比較にならないほど多くのことを得ることができました。参加していただいた海外の教授方は、驚くほど深い知識と鋭い視点をおもちで、私の研究計画の課題や問題点をいくつもご指摘いただきました。このことは、本当に貴重なことであったと思います。フィードバックや質疑応答の時間には英語がツールであることを今まで経験したことがないほど痛感しました。参加者全員でおこなうディスカッションも有意義な時間で、異なるバックグラウンドをもつ方々と話すことで様々なことを学びました。何より、それ自体がとても楽しく刺激的でした。GREAT-Ocha終了後には、教授からあなたの研究計画が聞けてよかった、応援していると一言おっしゃっていただき、今後の学習や研究の励みになることは間違いありません。この2日間で得られたものはしっかりと消化?吸収し、今後に活かしていきたいと思います。このような機会を設けてくださったすべての方に感謝しています。ありがとうございました。
